When we think of folklore many think it is something unreal or it is a story when in fact it is much more. Folklore are songs, legends, quilts, initiations, jokes, stories, poems, traditions, celebrations, and much more
(Sims & Stephens, Ch. 1, 2011). As for traditions we think of things we do around holidays, food, celebrations, or having something new, something blue, something barrowed for a wedding. Sims and Stephens say that traditions are often the one word that comes to mind when people think of the definition of folklore. Some of the concepts used to better understand the study of tradition include, it is both lore and process, it helps to create and confirm a sense of identity, and it is identified as a tradition by the community.
